I was relaxed and ready to give the speech. I had already reviewed my outline and knew what I was going to say.
I was confident that I would do well and be done with a minimum number of blunders. I also read the topic headings as I was going down, something that was not necessary. Speech self-assessment essay organization was better than I expected and I was able to change from one topic of the speech to another without much of a problem.
The outline was easy to follow, so when I needed to look back at the paper to check my progress I was able to find the spot quickly, and find any related material that was needed. I like to use an outline to get my ideas and thoughts in order to begin with, and that I what I did for this speech.
I will continue to start speeches in a similar way, but I would like to flesh them out in a way by actually writing what I plan to say under each heading and subheading. I will also take the initiative to transfer my speeches to note cards, they are more manageable and they would allow me the use of my hands.
I did not have many specifics for my speech, I only had a rough outline which would have been better had I provided actual lines of what I was planning on saying. There was also the problem of not using note cards. Things I would like to change would be the fact that an outline is a good start for me but I need to put more information into them and come up with a final rough draft that I can read almost straight from and have a coherent speech.
If I had to write this one again, I would be sure to create a timer for my Powerpoint based on some home practice so that I would not have to rely on someone to click for me.
I learned that writing a speech is not anywhere near as difficult as I thought it was going to be. It was as nice surprise when I had an almost working speech after only working on it for about 30 minutes total.
Being overly specific can actually help with your speaking because then you already know exactly what you are planning on saying. I projected my voice well, and did not speak while I was looking down at the paper checking my progress. I tried to cut back on filler words by just not talking till I actually had a complete thought in my head which worked well but I could still use some practice on it.
I used my hands well, though there was little gesturing above my lower abdomen, getting my hands higher up in the air would be a plus.
My eye contact was alright I did not actually spread it out too much though. I projected my voice well. When I am speaking in public I like to actively think about what I am doing, whether that is my hand motions or how I am standing.
By thinking about what I am doing repeatedly I can quickly change the negative aspect quickly in mid speech. Most of what I was doing that was positive are things that just come naturally so there is little need for me to try to keep doing them.
I had periods of time when I was looking down at my outline where I was not talking, which need to be cut down to a minimum. Repeating headings what an issue, something I need to work on by fluidly changing from topic to topic and not creating a gap for the audience to have to follow me on.
My hand gestures need to be higher up, and not just around my waste. I will try to actively get my hands higher up in the air, and use them in a slightly more vigorous way. By memorizing the majority of the speech I may be able to continue talking even when finding my place on the note cards, which would cut back on the periods of silence that I noticed in this speech.
Also by memorizing the speech I can avoid renaming a topic after it has already been mentioned earlier in the speech during the introduction. What I learned most about from this speech is I should devote more time to memorizing the speech and building on my outlines.
By doing this I could leave myself more free room to be more mobile while giving a speech. Writing a speech is only half the work, there is more work to be done by saying it out loud and practicing in front of a mirror.
